For some reason, I have not been able to access my website to make change to the "For Sale: 2010 Goat Kids" page that I need to. I hope we have DSL available through Frontier soon!
Update:
The following kids have sales pending:
Land of Havilah AmericanDream (Doeling. Sonador x Live w/o Care)
Land of Havilah Cappuccino (Doeling. Galathea x Live w/o Care)
Land of Havilah Twilight (Wether, Sonador x Live w/o Care)
Land of Havilah Expresso (Buckling. Galathea x Live w/o Care)
The following kids are still for sale:
Land of Havilah SD Eclipse (buckling, DiamondGirl x Shadow), $250 registered (Purebred)
Land of Havilah SD Crescent (buckling, DiamondGirl x Shadow), $250 registered (Purebred)
These two boys are heavily linebred on my lines and would make a big impact in your herd. I'd love to use Eclipse, but alas, that would be crossing to close to everything I have. I was hoping for doelings from this breeding, but wow, if you could use them on outcrosses from the lines I have - THAT would be amazing. Their Dam, DiamondGirl has a very nice udder! Check her out on the Senior Doe page, I have some nice pics of her as well as a very nice udder shot! Their Sire, Land of Havilah LG Shadow, is a very impressive buck! You can see him on the Nubian Herdsires page.
Both Dam and Sire are yearlings, thus the lower price for these kids.

Crystal Creek has some great products! I'm buying their Goat mineral - Crystal-Min 2:1 Goat Mineral, and have been happy with it. Thought you guys might be interested in checking out this business! They have organic products, many of their products contain herbs.

Here is the feed mix that I've been using, I'm very happy with it!
4# whole barley (organic)
2# whole oats (organic)
1# Black Oil Sunflower Seed
This mix is 13.5% protein. ![]()
My milkers get this:
I give 1# on the milkstand in the morning. (No top dressings, just the grain mix)
At night I give 1 1/2# plus the top dressings I list on my Farm Practices page, and 1 1/2 # of Alfalfa Pellets. I also use kefir in the girls grain at night to make the top dressings stick - mix the grain and the top dressing BEFORE you add the alfalfa pellets.
My goat kids get free choice alfalfa pellets, I don't feed them grain.

This year has been hard on keeping copper levels up. To supplement, I make a "Copper Solution":
1 TBSP of Copper Sulfate
12 3/4 cups of water
Dissolve Copper Sulfate into 1 cup of boiling water. Add the remaining water. Add a bit of "copper solution" just enough to cover the bottom of your water buckets (the ones the goats drink out of). I use 4 1/2 gallon food grade buckets to water my goats. I give this in ONE of their water buckets, I also offer a second bucket without the copper solution - that way they have the choice of drinking it or not. ![]()
As for Cobalt, I also supplement this in their water:
4 tsp. Cobalt Sulfate
4 oz. of water
Follow the same basic formula as above to make this "cobalt solution".
Give 2 cc of cobalt solution into 4 1/2 gallon bucket. If you want to be very careful back the supplementation dose to 1 cc per 4 1/2 gallon bucket.
I've been using this and have been very happy with the results! Plus, it is economical!!
I have a good source for copper sulfate, if you need it. I can sell it to you, just email me to see if I have enough extra on hand.
It is $3 per pound, plus shipping - Flat Rate USPS boxes are a cheap way to send this. 1# = Small Flat Rate Box ($4.95); I think up to 10# will fit into a Medium Flat Rate Box ($10.70). I think 25# will fit into the Large Flat Rate Box ($14.95).
I can't get cobalt sulfate locally, but you can buy it from the Jolly German website.

I'm giving my girls a break from sprouting for a bit till life settles down. Until then, I took the peas out - they hate them unless they are sprouted. ![]()

We had our second milk test yesterday. This is how the girls did:
Shekinah: 9.6# (2 years old, second freshener, kidded March 26th)
Sonador: 10.8# (3 years old, third freshener, kidded April 21st)
Galathea: 9# (5 years old, fourth freshener, kidded April 29th)
DiamondGirl: 5.8# (one year old, first freshener, kidded May 4th)
I will be sending the milk samples for testing tomorrow. Will post the results soon after I receive them.
